open stick tackle

keep your body in a strong low body position and balanced ready to move keep your left foot forward and your right foot back. The stick should be on the ground or hovering slightly above the ground then position your feet and stick to make a strong triangle shaped base.  The tackle must be positive and strong with your feet balanced. The stick face angled towards the ball ,the tackle should be timed at the right moment initiated by a jab to put player off or as player looses control. however be careful because the defender could be injured by the attacker as the head is down too low and the attacker could take advantage of this over commitment to his/her tackle. Flat stick only when attacker stationary or moving very slowly. I have gave myself a 9 out of 10 rating for this skill, as it is one of my better skills.

hockey skills reciving the ball

When reciving the ball from another player you should get your stick down as early as possible, also bend your knees not just your waist. Your left hand should be at the top of the stick and the right hand should be futher down.bend your knees and obsorb the ball againest the stick making sure the stick is in front of your right foot. your body should be in line with the ball as it aproches you although in a game it is not always possible. you may need to angle your stick to get better control of the ball. the is very important in a game , because if you can keep control of your ball then you have an advantage of being able to react faster than your oppnent.
This skill is one of my better skills therefore I believe out of 10 I would rate myself a 9 as this is one of my best qulities.

24/09/10 Hockey push pass

During this session we learnt how to perform the push pass technique. This is the easiest method of passing the ball, as the position of your hands on the stick is the same as when running with the ball. The perfect stance you must have when carrying out this skill is the sideways stance. With the feet placed shoulder width apart, leaning forward with knees slightly bent. And the ball is positioned in front of the body on level with the back right foot.
Our coach told us to stand 10 meters apart, then we practised the push pass to each other for 10 minutes this improved our skills in this technique. We then increased the distance between each other and made gates that we had to get it though the gates to score one point. I have rated myself about 8 out of 10 for this skil.
